According to the College Board, tuition costs at public universities average about $6,000, while attending a private school now averages more than $23,000. But the College Board also reports that more than $130 billion in financial aid is available to students and their families.

Need help paying for college?
The good news is that, according to research by the College Board, only about 6 percent of all students attend colleges with tuition and fees totaling $33,000 or higher per year.
But with costs rising for everything, including tuition, and room and board, many prospective students may be scholarship shopping.
